Accurate floor plan checklist

Before you export or share a floor plan, run through this checklist. Most common errors caught.

A 10-point check before you export or share. Catches the errors that cost the most to fix later.

In this guide

  1. 1

    1. Walls closed

Every room should be enclosed by walls forming a complete polygon. No gaps where two walls don't meet. Room Sketch 3D auto-detects rooms — if a room isn't detected, the walls aren't closed.

  2. 2

    2. Wall lengths match reality

Spot-check at least three wall lengths against your physical measurements. Pay attention to walls with alcoves, columns, or chimney breasts.

  3. 3

    3. Doors in the right place

Each door should be on a real wall in the right position. Check swing direction and hinge side — left vs right hand matters.

  4. 4

    4. Window positions

Each window on the wall it's actually on, sized to the real window, positioned where the real window is (not centered if it's actually off-center).

  5. 5

    5. Ceiling heights

8 feet by default. If your home has 9 or 10 foot ceilings, change it. If you have sloped or vaulted ceilings, use the per-vertex ceiling height editor.

  6. 6

    6. Stairs (if any)

Rise matches floor-to-floor height. Shape (straight/L/U) matches the real staircase. Direction (up/down) correct.

  7. 7

    7. Smart Flow Check passes

If Smart Flow Check shows red warnings, address them. At least understand them — sometimes warnings are intentional (e.g., narrow but acceptable walkway in a small room).

  8. 8

    8. Furniture fits in 3D walkthrough

Switch to 3D and walk through the room. If anything feels wrong — head clearance, doorway angles, sightlines — it probably is.

  9. 9

    9. Room labels are reasonable

Auto-detected room names should match the use you intend. Rename if needed.

  10. 10

    10. Units are correct

If you're sharing with someone in the US, make sure the plan is in feet/inches. With someone in Europe — meters/centimeters. Check Profile → Drawing Defaults.
