Room Sketch 3D's defaults work for most users. If you have specific conventions — thicker walls for masonry construction, larger grid for site planning — set them once in Profile and they apply to every new room.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open Profile → Drawing Defaults

Navigate to /profile. Scroll to Drawing Defaults.

  2. 2

    Set major grid size

Major Grid Size — default 12 inches (or 30 cm). Range 2–120 in / 5–300 cm. The on-canvas grid uses this spacing.

  3. 3

    Set wall thicknesses

Exterior Wall Thickness — default 6 inches (or 15 cm). Range 2–12 in. Interior Wall Thickness — default 4 inches (or 10 cm). Range 2–6 in.

  4. 4

    Reset to default

Each field has a Reset button next to it — reverts that single setting to the system default.

  5. 5

    Applies to new rooms only

Overrides stamp onto NEW rooms when you create them. Existing rooms keep their original thicknesses. To change an existing room, edit its walls directly.

Frequently asked questions

Does changing the grid size affect snap?

The visual grid changes; snap stays the same. The grid is purely visual. Snap operates on a fixed precision (typically ¼ inch / 1 cm).

Why don't my overrides apply to existing rooms?

Existing rooms have their own wall thicknesses set when they were created. Changing the default doesn't retroactively change those — to adjust, edit each wall's thickness directly in the Inspector.
