Outdoor spaces benefit from the same zoning thinking as indoor open-plan rooms. Define functional zones; connect with walkways; furnish for use.

    Patio sizing

    Small patio (seating only): 8 × 10 feet. Dining patio (table + 4 chairs): 12 × 12. Combined seating + dining: 16 × 18. Outdoor room with kitchen: 20 × 24+.

    Outdoor zones

    Seating: outdoor sofa/loveseat + chairs around a coffee table or fire pit. 12 × 12 feet. Dining: outdoor table + chairs. 12 × 12 for 4-seat; 14 × 14 for 6-seat. Kitchen: grill, prep counter, optional sink/fridge. 10 × 6 feet minimum along a wall. Pool: pool + decking. Highly variable. Fire pit: fire pit + 4-6 chairs around it. 14-foot diameter circle.

    Walkways

    Main: 36 inches. Between zones: 48 inches. Around dining table outdoors: same as indoor (36-48 inches behind chairs).
